What is a booking block?
Head Office can mark a service as visible but not bookable through the patient portal. The service still appears in the patient's list so they don't think it's missing, but instead of a checkbox the patient sees:
A short disclaimer explaining why they can't book the service here
One or more redirect buttons pointing to the right place (walk-in instructions, a provincial booking site, etc.)
What patients see
On the booking page, a Booking Block service appears with:
A pale yellow card with an information icon
The service name and the disclaimer text Head Office configured
One or more pill-shaped redirect buttons, with labels head office sets (for example, "Book a vaccination appointment")
No checkbox and no radio button: the service cannot be added to a booking
Common patient questions
"Why can't I book this here?" The service is publicly funded or restricted in this province and must be booked through the channel listed on the disclaimer. Point the patient at the redirect button.
"Can you book it for me in store?" Not in PHOXBook. The block applies to staff bookings too: in the New appointment dialog the service shows Not booked here ("From Head Office. This service cannot be booked here.") and cannot be ticked. Open it to read Head Office's message and links, and send the patient to the channel it names.
"It used to be a checkbox — did something change?" Yes. Head Office updates Booking Block settings per service and province. When a service moves from bookable to blocked (or back), the patient site follows that setting.
Need help?
If a patient reports a service that should be bookable but is showing a Booking Block card, contact your head office so they can check the service configuration.
